i'm a dog man. i've spent a majority of days with them by my side, some closer to my toes than others. they're a hell of a friend.

bronco was the best of them.

when i was excited, he was excited.
when i was sad, he sympathized.
when i raised my voice a bit in frustration, he perked up and gave me his "relax dude" look.

he loved my friends and they loved him...sometimes more than me i believe.

more than most humans, he exemplified the traits of people that i like. he was kind, protective, thankful and easy to please. he even hated gentrification...he always took a piss on a new condo as soon as it was built. seriously.

bronco left us yesterday. cancer got him like it gets a lot of the good ones. he passed on our kitchen floor, with his head in shanna and my hands.

if you have a dog, would ya maybe give them an extra treat or two today or let them walk an extra block or two?

they have a way of making us alright. i'm missing that like hell today.

I just wanted to say hi. We're playing a few shows here and there while we're working on getting some new songs together. The Silver Sprocket Bicycle Club will be releasing that split with Andrew Jackson Jihad now. We just need to record our songs.

11/18/08

We're home from the road. We'll be writing and recording through the winter, with a new record hopefully on the way in the spring and a split with our friends Andrew Jackson Jihad in April on Political Party Records.

We have two shows left before the end of the year, both in December in Chicago.

The new six-song ep, "I Gave Too Much Time To The Wine" is now available online at through yer bird records. You can get it by going to www.yerbird.com.

Along with the six new songs are remixed and mastered versions of the previous two eps, 2006's "My Home, It Shall No Longer Be The Sea" and 2004's "What Will They Speak Of You When You're Gone?".

i almost always keep personal things personal and feel like those who might care about my songs don't need to be bothered with anything else, but today's a valid exception i think. my grandmother julia passed away last night in her sleep. she was 1/2 of the inspiration behind the most recent record, 'there's no love in this war', and we all have hopes that today she's running through a field somewhere or dancing on a private dance floor with my granddad paul. she left like she lived, quietly and humble, so much so that i didn't have a chance to thank her one last time and tell her that i loved her. so if any of you reading this happen to have a copy of the record, could you maybe play it at some point this evening or tomorrow or sometime soon? i think she might like that. and maybe that thanks and 'i love ya' will get to her in some way.

thanks.

A new website. I hope you like it. Take a look around if you have time. Under that "other" section, there's a bunch of random things...mp3s, videos, photos. Stuff that's been collecting dust. There's a song on there that didn't make it on to "There's No Love In This War" too. I found it a couple of weeks ago. It was going to be the second to last song, but another came to mind that I liked more. It's just the demo on here...my voice and banjo.

Tour with Mustangs & Madras starts next month. They'll be backing me for most of my songs as well, and we'll be playing some that haven't been played loud before. I'm really looking forward to it.
